BELLEFONTE — Nothing is out of the realm of possibility when it comes to Joe Amendola.
That much is certain after he sounded off to reporters inside the Centre County Courthouse while the jury was deliberating whether his client, Jerry Sandusky, is guilty on 48 counts in a child sex abuse case — an apparent violation of the gag order imposed by Judge John Cleland.
Cleland broke up the impromptu press conference by summoning for Amendola.
Among the flurry of remarks from Amendola, per reporters’ Twitter feeds inside the courtroom:
- “Do you know what the odds are of walking on 52 charges? The likelihood is strong he will be convicted of something.”
- “Jerry is an overgrown child. Kids tend to be naive and not really appreciate the seriousness of what they are facing.”
- “Acquitted? I will die of a heart attack.”
- Amendola said Sandusky comes to court prepared in case he has to go to jail.
- “Jerry and I have become very close. Please don’t misconstrue what I’m saying.”
The jury ordered dinner around 5:30 p.m. and continued to deliberate past 6 p.m. The jury, attorneys and Cleland reconvened around 3:30 p.m. to discuss a supplemental charge regarding alleged victim No. 8.
