Sandusky, Victim 5 Expected to Speak at Sentencing, Report Says

Jerry Sandusky plans to speak before his sentencing on Oct. 9 in an effort to elicit sympathy from the judge as he believes he was wrongly convicted, Pennlive reports. 

According to a report by Sara Ganim, who broke the story of the grand jury investigation into Sandusky’s abuse in March 2011, Sandusky’s attorney, Joe Amendola, said his client, the 68-year-old convicted of sexually abusing 10 boys over a 15-year period, continues to maintain his innoccence. 

At least one victim of Sandusky’s has confirmed through his lawyer that he will give a statement at the sentencing, too. According to Pennlive, attorney for Victim 5, Tom Kline, said his client will speak about the impact Sandusky’s abuse had on his life. 

Through tears, Victim 5 testified at Sandusky’s trial in June how he was abused in the Lasch Football Building locker room shower as a child. 

Other attorneys have not confirmed if other victims will speak before sentencing, according to the report. 

Meanwhile, the Lock Haven Express is reporting parking could be impacted by the recent fire that took out the Hotel Do-De in historic Bellefonte and affect parking at the trial. The fire broke out in the early hours of Sept. 9.

According to the report, county administrator Tim Boyde said on Tuesday parking will be limited, most likely on a first-come, first-served basis. 

‘A lot of that is still under discussion,’ he said. 

Sandusky was convicted on June 22 on 45 of 48 counts of sexually abusing 10 boys over a 15-year period. He will be sentenced following a hearing to determine if he is a sexually violent predator at 9 a.m. Oct. 9 in the Centre County Courthouse. 

Some of the charges carry a maximum sentence and Sandusky could face a sentence of more than 400 years.
