State College Area School District on Monday released a new mobile app, giving parents, students, employees and the public a single location to access information about the district.

The new app combines all of the district’s communications platforms into a single tool, which was developed through months of national research and focus group beta testing.

“Our overall communication goal for our school district is to improve community understanding of what is occurring throughout our schools,” Superintendent Bob O’Donnell said in a statement. “This app supports this work and does so in a manner that is very timely (and simple) for members of our school district community.”

The app includes a news stream with news and stories from around the district and social media feeds, as well as directories linking to school and department websites and district employees.

‘With a touch or two, users can receive district notifications, check district and school calendars, access staff and student resources, find grades and update emergency contact information through the Parent Portal/Home Access Center, consult menus, replenish My School Bucks accounts, view virtual school tours and call in ‘safe arrival’ notifications for student absences to schools,’ according to a release from the district.

A sports module allows for a customizable feed with scores and information for district teams and links to team websites. A suggestion box for questions and feedback about the district also is included.

The app is free and available in the Apple App Store and in Google Play. For users of the previous district app, it will be updated automatically with the new app.
