A serious one-car accident in State College sends one person to the hospital. It happened around 8:00 p.m Monday at the intersection of North Atherton St. and Aaron Dr. The driver had to be extricated from the wreckage.
The car was headed north on North Atherton when it swerved into a light pole. It appeared there was a tremendous impact — the vehicle’s engine was sheared from the car.
The driver was said to be conscious as he was removed from the wreckage. Dozens of police and emergency workers took part in the rescue operation.
One lane of North Atherton was closed in both directions for about an hour. There’s no word on the driver’s identity or his condition. Police aren’t sure what caused the accident.
