Penn State police are investigating the seventh indecent exposure reported on campus since the beginning of the fall 2009 semester, police said.
The most recent incident occurred about 9:30 p.m. Monday in a Hiester Hall women’s bathroom, police Deputy Director Tyrone Parham said.
Parham said a 21-year-old female Penn State student was exiting a shower stall and found a masked man standing in front of her, exposing himself. The student then re-entered the shower stall, waiting for the man to go away. After a few minutes, he did, Parham said.
After 30 minutes later, the female student called police. She told them the man was wearing ski-mask and had dark hair and light skin. She also said he was wearing shorts and a T-shirt.
Parham said police are still investigating this incident as well as the previous indecent exposure that took place May 21 in Schulze Hall — 30 feet from the Hiester building.
‘There’s no indication they’re connected,’ Parham said. ‘I don’t think we’re able to determine that yet.’
The investigation goes back even further, Parham said. Throughout the 2009-2010 academic year, police received reports from female residents in Brumbaugh and Holmes halls saying a masked man exposed himself to them.
Though most of reports were similar, Parham said the locations of the events often differ. Female residents have been confronted by a masked man in residence hall laundry rooms, bathrooms and hallways, he said.
‘University police are increasing their presence around the occupied residence halls and we urge anyone who sees suspicious behavior to report it to University Police at 863-1111,’ Penn State spokesman Geoff Rushton wrote in an e-mail. ‘We are also stressing that residents should not leave residence halls doors, which are controlled by card access, propped open or allow in people they don’t know or who aren’t their guests.’
