Small Plane Crashes in Benner Township

No one was seriously injured when a small plane crashed early Wednesday morning in Benner Township.

According to Penn State police, the pilot and passenger sustained minor injuries and were the only people aboard the plane.

It happened at about 12:30 a.m. when a Beechcraft J35 Bonanza crashed in a wooded area off of Barns Lane owned by Penn State, just east of University Park Airport. The aircraft departed Portsmouth International Airport at Pease in New Hampshire at 9:41 p.m. and was bound for Texas, with a scheduled stop in State College for fuel.

Penn State police responded to the scene along with Bellefonte fire companies, airport fire and rescue crews, and the Pennsylvania State Police. The pilot and passenger were transported to Mount Nittany Medical Center for evaluation.

Information on the cause of the crash was not yet available. The accident has been reported to the National Transportation Safety Board and Federal Aviation Administration, according to Penn State.
