State College: Alleged Assailant Jailed

A Philadelphia-area woman remained in the Centre County Correctional Facility Tuesday afternoon on aggravated assault charges related to a stabbing Sunday night at the Centre County Women’s Resource Center.

State College Borough Police said Tiara Williford, 21, is charged with two counts of aggravated assault, one count of simple assault, one count of recklessly endangering another person and one count of presenting false identification to law enforcement officials. Williford was arraigned before District Judge Daniel Hoffman, who set bail at $50,000.

Police said the incident occurred around 10 p.m. Sunday and began as an argument over household chores. Police said Williford stabbed the victim with a knife or other bladed-object four times: twice in the back, once in the side and once in the elbow. The victim was taken to Mount Nittany Medical Center and then flown to the Altoona Regional Health System Trauma Center, where she was treated for injuries that were not life-threatening.

Williford, who police said fled the scene after the assault, was apprehended without incident about two hours later at a convenience store on North Atherton Street after being seen by a Penn State police patrol.
