A former employee of a State College McDonald’s allegedly pulled out a loaded gun inside of the restaurant on Saturday.

Police said Alrick D. Manning, Jr., 23, of State College, had recently quit his job and entered the McDonald’s at 442 E. College Ave. requesting his employee paperwork. A manager told him it was no longer there and he left, but returned at about 6 p.m.

According to a criminal complaint, after being told again the paperwork was not there, Manning went around the counter and walked back to the manager’s office where he started going through drawers. The manager came back to tell him to leave and two other male employees who heard them arguing came to the office as well, police said.

Manning went back in front of the counter and was told to leave but refused to do so, according to the complaint. The manager told Manning she was calling police and the two male employees began to approach the area.

Manning allegedly told the employees to “back off” because the argument didn’t involve them and then reached into his backpack and removed a black handgun.

The manager turned her back to Manning and pushed the other employees away, positioning herself to protect them in case Manning opened fire, police said. Manning then fled the scene and was located by police several minutes later on the 200 block of East College Avenue.

Police said that inside of Manning’s backpack, officers found a fully loaded black handgun. He allegedly said he brandished the gun but did not point it at anyone.

Manning was charged with one count of terroristic threats, a third-degree felony, and misdemeanor counts of simple assault, disorderly conduct and defiant trespass.

He was arraigned before District Judge Steven Lachman and straight monetary bail was set at $50,000.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Wednesday.
