Fans attending State College Area High School varsity football games in 2018 are in for a musical and visual treat, as director Paul Leskowicz is offering two themes this season.

The band and bandfront will perform patriotic tunes during the “America”-themed part of the show. The band also will delve into Broadway and film with music featured from “The Phantom of the Opera,” “The Greatest Showman” and “Les Miserables.”

The band includes 19 members in the bandfront and 160 instrumentalists. Senior Sam Oleynik is the drum major and, for the first time, this year’s band also will be led by two assistant drum majors, seniors Megan Russell and Kristen Lenze.

“They have been a dynamic trio of leaders for the band,” said Leskowicz, who is directing the band for the eighth straight year.

Leskowicz’s assistants include Doug Schunk, Matt Nelson, Shante McDougald and Khloe Musser.

“The band is off to a great start this year,” Leskowicz said. “Alumni are always invited back to play for homecoming (Friday, Sept. 21) during the pregame show. Additionally, consider marching in the homecoming parade on Sept. 20.”
