Newly reelected Pennsylvania governor Ed Rendell announced a new economic and environmental health investment yesterday that is focused on different important environmental efforts in the commonwealth.
In a ceremony held in Luzerne County yesterday, Rendell announced a $27 million investment to the cause, to be concentrated towards cleaning up streams and rivers, addressing serious environmental problems at abandoned mine sites and revitalizing communities across the state.
In total, the money will finance 153 projects through Pennsylvania’s traditional Growing Greener Program and the voter-approved Growing Greener II bond initiative.
In Centre County, two organizations will receive investments as part of the statewide inititative. Clearwater Conservancy of Central Pennsylvania Inc. is receiving $450,000 for Phase III of a project to model water availability in the Spring Creek and Spruce Creek Basins.
Penn State will receive $71,000 from the program for a project concerning streambank stabilization on Halfmoon Creek.
