The Penn State student arrested this week for resisting arrest and fighting with a State College police officer waived his preliminary hearing this morning.

Mario Palarino, 19, of Coraopolis, was arrested Saturday after an officer approached him about an open can of beer he reportedly had in his hand. Investigators say Palarino pulled away from the officer when the officer approached him, and eventually wrestled with him on the ground.

Palarino eventually kicked the officer above the sternum. The officer lost his grip, allowing Palarino to run away. The officer had scratches to his elbows but no major injuries.

Palarino was eventually picked up by another officer near East Beaver Avenue.

Palarino is charged with aggravated assault, escape, resisting arrest, purchase of alcohol by a minor and possession of an open container of an alcoholic beverage.
