Happy Weekend, Happy Valley! There is much to do around the Centre Region these next three days.
On Friday, enjoy the performing arts with dance at the State Theatre, a classic courtroom drama at Nittany Theatre at the Barn or a free concert in Lemont.
Saturday is full of festivals and fairs, highlighted by Lemont’s 35th Annual Strawberry Festival and the inaugural Rock for a Cure festival at Tussey Mountain.
And on Sunday get outdoors with Trout Unlimited or support the State Theatre Golf Classic.

FRIDAY
Centre Dance Recital
Centre Dance presents its 25th annual Spring Recital at 6 p.m. Friday and 5 p.m. Saturday featuring dancers age 2 through adult. Dancers will perform ballet, pointe, tap, jazz, lyrical, contemporary, hip hop and acrobatics. AVID Dance Productions, the studio’s competition team, will perform its award-winning routines each night. Ticket info.
Twelve Angry Men
Nittany Theatre at the Barn’s Summer Stock Season continues with the classic Broadway courtroom drama “Twelve Angry Men.” The production, directed by Darcy Evans, begins at 7:30 p.m. Shows run through June 25. Tickets
My Fair Lady
Fuse Productions brings the legendary stage musical to the Penn State Downtown Theatre Centre with shows throughout this weekend and next weekend. Evening shows are at 7:30 p.m with a matinee on Sunday at 2p.m. Details.
Concerts on the Village Green
The weekly free summer concert series at Lemont’s Village Green continues with the second of 13 weekend shows with bluegrass band Tussey Mountain Moonshiners at 7:30 p.m.
SATURDAY
OLV Summer Festival
Our Lady of Victory Church, 800 Westerly Parkway, holds its Summer Festival and Flea Market. The festival, from 10 a.m.-9 p.m., features food concessions, children’s carnival games, bingo, dunk tank and live music. The flea market is from 8 a.m.-4 p.m.
Abba’s House Children’s Carnival
Abba’s House Children’s Carnival, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at 200 Ellis Place, will include face painting, a bouncy house, many games and prizes, and carnival food like cotton candy, popcorn, hot dogs and more.
Kish Bank Family Fun Day
A day of free family fun from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Kish Bank Financial Center, 2610 Greentech Drive, Family Fun Day will feature games, food, prizes, Home Depot Kids Workshop, bounce house, Tumblebus, basketball shoot with Lady Lion Basketball coaches, a fire truck and the LifeFlight Helicopter (10-11 a.m.).
Saturday Stories Alive
Join Schlow Library for a half-hour of stories, fingerplays, and a hands-on activity to take home, starting at 11 a.m. in the Children’s Activity Room. Recommended for ages 2-7.
Local Fest Wellness Fair
Schlow Library brings together wellness, fitness, and happiness resources together to celebrate our community at the Local Fest Wellness Fair. Stop by the library to pick up information, try some yoga, sample local produce and chocolate, meet an adoptable dog, talk with the roller derby team, make a craft, and more. 11 a.m.-2 p.m. on Schlow Second Floor.
“The Bear That Inspired Winnie the Pooh”
The PA Military Museum in Boalsburg hosts this presentation and movie that tells the story of the real London Zoo bear — which had been adopted by a Canadian Regimental Veterinarian before being shipped to England for service in World War I — that inspired the author A.A. Milne. Event starts at 1:30 p.m. Donations encouraged for admission.
Strawberry Festival
Lemont’s 35th Annual Strawberry Festival, from 3-7 p.m., features fresh strawberries, home made cakes by Lemont residents, ice cream from Meyer Dairy, and lemonade, for $6 per adult and $3 per child from ages 3-12. Live music, pony rides, speeder and pumper rides from Bellefonte Historical Railroad Society and tours of the historic Thompson Grain Elevator are all part of the festival.
Rock for a Cure
The inaugural Rock for a Cure Festival from 5-10 p.m. at Tussey Mountain Amphitheatre features local bands including Hops & Vines, Doug Irwin & Kevin Briggs, Biscuit Jam and John and Adam. In addition to the music, there are activities for people of all ages, food, beer, wine and Rita’s Italian Ice. All proceeds benefit the local chapter of the American Cancer Society. Details.
Art After Hours
Penn State’s Palmer Museum of Art hosts a special evening event bringing together music and art. Local acoustic rock duo Hops & Vines play an outdoor set from 7-8:30 p.m. (indoors if rain). Complimentary Berkey Creamery ice cream will be served and the galleries will be open.
SUNDAY
Get Outdoors
Join the Spring Creek Chapter of Trout Unlimited for the Get Outdoors Family Fishing Picnic, noon-4 p.m. at Tussey Mountain Pond. The family fishing outing, free and open to the public, will teach knot tying and fly casting and how to identify bugs and other wildlife. RSVP.
State Theatre Golf Classic
The first State Theatre Golf Classic will be held Sunday with a 1 p.m. shotgun start at Skytop Mountain Golf Club in Port Matilda. The event will feature 18 holes of golfing enjoyment, food, drink, entertainment, and prizes. Proceeds will support the replacement of the State Theatre’s 15-year-old soundboard. Arts Festival at 50
The opening reception for Centre County Historical Society’s exhibition “Arts Festival at 50: Stories of the Early Days” is 2-5 p.m. at Centre Furnace Mansion. Details.
There’s Something Happening Here
Five musicians from Penn State’s 1960s folk music scene – Saul Broudy, Jerry Zolten, John Frink, Lynn Margileth, and Peter Kessler – reunite at 8 p.m. In the Attic at the State Theatre to perform songs and tell stories that speak to their experiences during the Vietnam Era at Penn State. The concert will be filmed by WPSU Penn State and excerpted for later broadcast as part of a national dialogue on the 50th anniversary of the war. More info.
