It’s another weekend packed with plenty to do around the area. Happy Valley’s Got Talent will showcase young performers. You can catch several Penn State sports teams in action. And there are concerts, benefits and much more on tap.

FRIDAY
Penn State Lacrosse
The Penn State men’s lacrosse team, ranked No. 2 in the nation, will look to make history by going 8-0 for the first time in program history, if the Nittany Lions can best Fairfield at 4 p.m. at Lacrosse Field.
Volleyball in Rec Hall
The No. 13 Penn State men’s volleyball team is back in Rec Hall for a non-conference matchup with Cal-Baptists. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
WNIT
The Lady Lion basketball team’s season continues with the program’s third appearance in the WNIT. Penn State hosts Ohio in the opening round, with a 7 p.m. tip at the Bryce Jordan Center.
Brigadoon
The State High Thespians will present a special event showing of the 1954 MGM musical, ‘Brigadoon,’ at 7:30 p.m. at The State Theatre. Based on the Broadway musical by Lerner and Loewe, the film was directed by Vincente Minnelli and stars Gene Kelly, Van Johnson, and Cyd Charisse. Proceeds will go toward the Thespians’ fundraising for a trip to Scotland.
Open Music
The Open Music series, a diverse group of local musicians performing experimental concerts, continues its third season with ‘Our Sense of the Real, Part Two,’ at 7:30 p.m. in The Attic at The State Theatre. A second performance is scheduled fro 7:30 p.m. on Saturday at Bremen Town Ballroom in Millheim. [Ticket info]
School of Music Recital
Penn State alumnus Christopher Brown returns to the University Park campus to present a bass trombone recital at 7:30 p.m. in Esber Recital Hall, Music Building I. His visit is hosted by his former trombone professor, Mark L. Lusk.
SATURDAY
Home Buyers’ Seminar
Keller Williams Advantage Realty, 740 S. Atherton St., will host a first-time home buyers’ seminar, with professionals addressing a range of topics and resources. The seminar will be held from 10 a.m. to noon and light refreshments will be served
Trunk Sale
The St. Vincent de Paul Thrift Store will hold a prom, bridal, designer and vintage trunk sale from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Our Lady of Victory Church Activity Center, 820 Westerly Parkway.
Women’s Lacrosse
The No. 8-ranked Penn State women’s lacrosse team opens Big Ten play with a 1 p.m. start against Rutgers.
Documentary at the Military Museum
The Pennsylvania Military Museum in Boalsburg will present a screening of the 2007 documentary “You Enter Germany – Bloody Huertgen and the Siegfried Line” at 1:30 p.m. Donations are requested to attend.
Happy Valley’s Got Talent
Twenty-two local talented kids’ acts, including everything from a hula hoop dancer to an Elvis impersonator, will perform during the seventh annual “Happy Valley’s Got Talent,” benefiting Tides, a support program for grieving children and families. Shows are set for 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. at The State Theatre with a red carpet pre-show and reception before the evening performance.
She’s Crazy: Mental Health & Other Myths
The Jana Marie Foundation presents the cabaret and improvisational performance ‘She’s Crazy:Mental Health & Other Myths,’ that will entertain while educating about mental health issues. Performances are scheduled for 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. in The Attic at The State Theatre.
Gymnastics
The Penn State men’s gymnastics will return to Rec Hall for its third home meet of the 2017 campaign, taking on Michigan in a 2:30 p.m. meet.
Ladies DJ Dance Party
An All Ladies DJ Dance Party will be held at 8 p.m. The Makery, 209 Calder Way, will go to the development of writing workshops through the Women’s Resource Center and Stormbreak for women and teens in need and crisis in the local community. Tickets include two signature cocktails and snacks. [More info.]
SUNDAY
Bolshoi Ballet in Cinema
For one evening, the Bolshoi takes on a new challenge with audacity in Hans Van Manen’s Frank Bridge’s Variations, Sol León and Paul Lightfoot’s Short Time Together and Alexei Ratmansky’s Russian Seasons. The performance will be shown at 12:55 p.m. at The State Theatre.
A Year with Frog and Toad
When Frog and Toad come out of hibernation, it’s a sign that spring is springing. The amphibious odd couple will bring their pondside adventures in the Tony Award-nominated musical “A Year with Frog and Toad” to Penn State with a production for all ages at 2 p.m. in Eisenhower Auditorium.
Tyler’s Suite
The Music Ministry of State College Presbyterian Church will present “Tyler’s Suite,” a new nine-piece choral movement dedicated to the memory of Tyler Clementi, a talented young musician who died by suicide after being bullied by his roommate during his first few weeks of college. The free performance is at 3 p.m. at the church, 132 W. Beaver Ave. and the concert will be sung by a special choir of church and community members with soloists Ryan Ordnung and Patti Begg accompanied by piano (Roger Christman) and violin (Leah Maines). Jane Clementi, Tyler’s mother and anti-bullying advocate, will introduce the suite.
DSCH Trio
The DSCH Trio, comprised of three recent Penn State music school graduates will perform a benefit concert at 4 p.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Centre County, 780 Waupelani Drive Extension. Proceeds will support Hiwot House, a home for girls attending the St. Lalibela School in Lalibela, Ethiopia.
Melvin Seals & JGB
Melvin Seals, the pioneering organist and keyboardist best known for his work with the Jerry Garcia Band (JGB), takes the stage at The State Theatre for an 8 p.m. performance with JGB.
