Halloween weekend is here!
Trick or treating is already a thing of the past for the Centre Region, but that doesn’t mean the holiday celebrations are over.
As always, there’s plenty going on in State College and the surrounding area this weekend, both Halloween-related and otherwise.
If you’re in town and looking for some fun activities and events to attend, here are the highlights from the upcoming weekend.

FRIDAY:
Enjoy some smooth jazz.
Local jazz drummer Ronnie Burrage, considered one of the best jazz musicians in the world, is hosting Jazz Night at the Bellefonte Art Museum from 7 to 10 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.
Get your scare on.
The Penn State Forensic Science Club is hosting its annual haunted house this weekend. It started last night, but there are still two more chances to explore your childhood fears thanks to this year’s theme, which includes creepy dentists, clowns, monsters under the bed, and more.
With help from Theme Park Engineers and PRSSA, this “spooktacular” haunted house is located on campus at Spruce Cottage. , which is just off of Pollock Road, directly north of the Ritenour Building. It will run you $4.99 and goes from 8 to 11 p.m. on Friday and Saturday nights.
Sell your unwanted candy…
Pediatric Dental Care and Happy Valley Orthodontics are sponsoring a Candy Buy Back event after last night’s trick or treating. You can sell back your candy at $1 per pound with a maximum of five pounds per child from 3:30 to 6 p.m. today. It’s all for a good cause too, as the candy will be shipped to American troops.
There will be activities and a prize drawing for participating children. The buyback event is located at Pediatric Dental Care at 1019 Ghaner Road, Suite 100, in Port Matilda.

SATURDAY:
…or get some more candy instead.
The Home Depot on Green Tech Drive in State College is holding a trick or treating event on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Each department will have candy and you’re invited to roam the store in search of sweets in your costume.
It’s gameday.
The Penn State Nittany Lions are back at home after a 31-30 road win over Maryland in Baltimore. The 6-2 Penn State team will face off with the Fighting Illini (4-3). The game kicks off at 12 p.m. and will be broadcasted on ESPN2.
You can look back at our coverage of the team from this past week leading up to the Big Ten showdown with Illinois here.
More haunted houses!
The Penn State School of Theatre is hosting a haunted house of its own from 7 to 11 p.m. on Friday and Saturday nights. Admission is $4.75 at the door and the haunted house includes “rooms of wonder and horror, freaks of nature, hall of mirrors, fortune telling, carousel, and more.”

SUNDAY:
Can’t make Friday’s Candy Buy Back?
Well we have good news! There’s another one being held at Schuchert Orthodontics on 2 p.m. that will also pay $1 per pound. As part of Operation Gratitude, the candy will be shipped to troops overseas.
Activities include face painting, pumpkin decorating, and a raffle with great prizes.
Celebrate Day of the Dead.
Join members of the Hispanic community celebrating the Day of the Dead, a Mexican holiday, in Bellefonte on Sunday. From 1 to 4 p.m. at the Bellefonte Art Museum, the celebration focuses on praying for friends and family who have passed away to help support their spiritual journey.
Or celebrate the harvest (and history).
Millbrook Marsh Nature Center is hosting its annual historically-themed harvest festival, giving visitors a sneak peek into the life of Americans in the 1800s. There will be food, games, crafts, demonstrations, music, animals and more. You can learn about history and enjoy some of the last (reasonably) warm days we’ll have in 2015.

Of course, those aren’t all the events happening in State College and Centre County this weekend. Check out our community calendar for more.
