Discovery Space will welcome more than 50 local artisans for a weekend full of shopping and community support.

The interactive science museum’s 5,000-square-foot makerspace workshop, The Rivet, will host its third annual Winter Market on Saturday and Sunday. The event will bring more than 50 local artists and food trucks to Discovery Space, 1224 N. Atherton St., to help promote and support regional creators and small businesses.

Guests can expect to browse stands selling pottery, kitchenware, jewelry, paintings and prints, baked goods, decor, handmade furniture and more. A customization station will help shoppers embroider shirts, stockings and beanies and press custom images onto shirts and bags. Guests can also customize glassware with laser-etching technology.

“We love to promote shopping local,” said Madison Flaherty, Discovery Space’s assistant director. “Our goal for the Winter Market is to showcase just how much creativity lives in our community! Shoppers share in the fun by purchasing unique and customized gifts for friends, family members, and themselves. We are honored to have the opportunity to work with so many awesome, local entrepreneurs, hobbyists and artists.”

Proceeds from the Winter Market will support The Rivet’s programming and equipment costs. The event, which stretches from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday, will also offer free Discovery Space admission during market hours.

Free parking for the Winter Market is available at Radio Park Elementary (800 W. Cherry Lane) and outside the former TGI Fridays restaurant (1215 N. Atherton St.).
