Sporting a New York Yankees jersey, nine-year-old Tucker Haas closed out the Tuesday edition of ‘Fox and Friends’ on June 22 with his trademark version of ‘Boom Boom Pow.’
Gretchen Carlson, an anchor on the Fox News Channel morning program, said Tucker’s ‘greatest accomplishment is that he’s beating cancer.’
Haas, of York, gained local and Internet fame in February, when he performed the Black Eyed Peas’ ‘Boom Boom Pow’ for roughly 15,000 people at Penn State’s dance marathon, or THON. A cancer survivor, he was diagnosed with the disease at age two, his mother, Lisa Haas, said on the Fox program.
‘He’s a fighter,’ Lisa Haas said on the New York-based national show. ‘True miracle.’
Tucker rapped for about two minutes starting at 8:53 a.m. He performed again on an after-the-show segment shown only at www.foxnews.com.
‘That’s what I call some rapping, Tucker,’ Carlson said after the 8:53 performance.
Her co-anchor Steve Doocy called Tucker’s work ‘terrific.’
Tucker, who was accompanied by THON volunteers for his Fox appearance, told the anchors that he doesn’t get nervous in front of a big audience.
‘I just listen to (rap) on the radio, and I catch on to things quick,’ he said.
Tucker also announced that he wants to go to Penn State. His cancer has been in remission for three years.
He just finished third grade, and his favorite Yankee is Derek Jeter, he said.
Lisa Haas said Tucker has undergone 77 radiation treatments and a stem-cell transplant, among other medical procedures. Also appearing with him on Fox was his six-year-old sister, Taylor.
A THON volunteer and Penn State student who interns at Fox suggested bringing Tucker on ‘Fox and Friends,’ according to THON organizers.
The Penn State Interfraternity Council/Panhellenic Dance Marathon is billed as the largest student-run philanthropy in the world. Proceeds benefit pediatric-cancer research and treatment at the university’s Hershey Medical Center.
