Three More PIAA Championship Games for Penn State

The state’s top high school games in baseball, softball and boys’ volleyball will be held at Penn State’s University Park campus from 2011-2014, the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association announced.

Athletic Director Tim Curley said Penn State is ‘ready to welcome the baseball, softball and welcome back the boys’ volleyball student-athletes, coaches, officials and fans to Happy Valley for what is sure to be many years of outstanding state high school championships.’

Baseball

Four-year-old Medlar Field at Lubrano Park will be the site of the state baseball championship game for the next four years. The dates of those games are:

  • June 17, 2011
  • June 15, 2012
  • June 14, 2013
  • June 13, 2014

Softball

The $10-million Beard Field at Nittany Lion Softball Park, currently under construction west of Beaver Stadium, will be a ‘first-rate facility’ when it is completed in time for the upcoming season, Penn State President Graham Spanier has said. It will showcase the state’s best high school softball teams on the following dates:

  • June 17, 2011
  • June 15, 2012
  • June 14, 2013
  • June 13, 2014

Volleyball

The boys’ volleyball championship game has been held at Penn State’s Multi-Sport Facility for the last six years. It will return annually until its 10th consecutive year on the following dates:

  • June 10 & 11, 2011
  • June 8 & 9, 2012
  • June 7 & 8, 2013
  • June 6 & 7, 2014
