U.S. Sen. Pat Toomey, Pennsylvania’s Republican incumbent, will bring his re-election campaign to the Centre Region on Thursday.
Toomey, facing a close race against Democratic challenger Katie McGinty, will be joined by Sen. Joni Ernst of Iowa from 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. at American Legion Post 245, 1950 Pine Hall Road.
The race between Toomey and McGinty is considered a toss-up making Pennsylvania a key battleground state for control of the Senate.
Toomey last visited State College in August when he brought a weeklong bus tour focused on national security issues to Champs Sports Grill on North Atherton Street.
Toomey is seeking his second term after winning election over Joe Sestak in 2010. He previously challenged then-Sen. Arlen Specter for the Republican nomination in 2004 but lost.
Ernst retired as a lieutenant colonel in the Iowa Army National Guard and went on to become the first female combat veteran elected to the U.S. Senate in 2014.
