A serious crash on the Mount Nittany Expressway sent two people to the hopsital and temporarily shut down State Route 322 on Wednesday.
The crash, which occurred at just before 3 p.m. on Wednesday afternoon, was a two-vehicle collision between a tractor trailer and a car. It took place on the portion of 322 between East College Avenue and East Park Avenue, near Puddintown Road.
The male driver of the passenger vehicle suffered serious injuries, according to State College police, and was transported to UPMC Altoona’s trauma center via Life Flight helicopter. A female passenger in that vehicle was transported to Mount Nittany Medical Center for injuries, and the driver of the truck was not injured.
‘The passenger car was struck on the driver’s side by the tractor-trailer,’ police said in a press release. ‘The force of the impact spun the car across the media and it came to rest on the east bound shoulder facing east bound. The tractor-trailer came to rest in the median.’
That section of Route 322 — between College Avenue in Interstate 99 — was closed down for almost two hours in both directions as the crash was cleared., reopening shortly before 5 p.m. yesterday.
