Holiday travelers may want to allow for extra travel time Thursday.
The National Weather Service has announced a winter-weather advisory for the State College area. It’s expected to remain in effect until 3 p.m.
According to the advisory, posted on AccuWeather.com, the region will see a mixture of snow, sleet and freezing rain. Accumulations may amount to a coating of snow or sleet, and up to a tenth of an inch of ice, the advisory says.
‘Wintry precipitation will arrive a few hours before daybreak and begin as (a) mixture of snow, sleet and freezing rain before changing to all rain by the early afternoon,’ the advisory reads.
Untreated roads and sidewalks may be slippery from a coating of ice, according to the advisory. Drivers should be ready for those conditions — especially on bridges and overpasses — and expect limited visibility, the advisory notes.
