A man and a woman were found dead after a fire that destroyed a Spring Township home on Saturday morning, according to the Centre County Coroner’s Office.
The fire started at about 9:15 a.m. in a residence on the 100 block of Mulbarger Lane. Centre County Coroner Scott Sayers was dispatched to the scene and pronounced the man and woman dead.
Autopsies found found both died of smoke inhalation.
The names and ages of the deceased are being withheld pending DNA analysis, which Sayers said is expected to take several weeks.
Multiple area fire companies responded to the blaze, and emergency responders learned while on scene that two people were still inside the residence, Spring Township police said in a news release on Saturday. After the fire was brought under control, a search of the residence began and the man and woman were found dead.
The state police fire marshal and Centre County Coroner’s Office are investigating
Undine, Logan, Pleasant Gap, Alpha, Howard, Citizens’, Centre Hall and Walker Township fire companies were dispatched.
Blanchard Street was closed while crews brought the fire under control.
