Stadium Journey polled 100 writers and compiled its annual list of the top 100 stadium experiences in North America. Most stadiums included on the list are home to professional sports teams, but Penn State won out as the only school with two different venues on the list.
Beaver Stadium was voted the No. 23 sports venue in North America and No. 6 among college football stadiums. The site’s review of Beaver Stadium notes the eye-popping capacity of 106,572.
“Needless to say, a Saturday game here is time well spent. A ‘white out’ night game is a must-see for any college football fan,” the site notes.
Pegula Ice Arena ranked No. 71 on the overall list and was voted the top college hockey ice arena in the nation. The site mentions the immediate connection that many have with Penn State athletics and football, but underscores the strides that Guy Gadowsky’s men’s hockey program has made in just a few years. Men’s hockey’s jump to Division I is thanks to Terry Pegula, “the owner of the Buffalo Sabres and Buffalo Bills, who contributed $102 million to pay for the bulk of the cost for a shiny state of the art hockey venue.”
Chicago’s Wrigley Field was voted No. 1 overall.
