When Penn State grads Brad and Andrea Groznik returned to State College after years of living in New York City, it struck them that one of their more enjoyable experiences in New York would translate well to the Centre Region.

So after planning for much of this year, Pop Up Ave — an urban-style outdoor flea market featuring a curated selection of vendors, local art, live music and more — will come to the Garner Street Parking Lot downtown from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. on Saturday.

Popularized in major cities, urban flea-markets give visitors a chance to check out unique and trendsetting items from a wide range of vendors. Pop Up Ave will have some of the hippest vendors from across Pennsylvania and elsewhere selling home décor, handmade bath products, artisanal jewelry, baked goods, vintage items and more.

“With all the students, young professionals and new families looking for stuff to do on the weekend, a flea like this feels like a natural fit,” Brad Groznik said. “Andrea and I loved the fleas in New York and we’re excited to bring the experience to State College.”

A full list of vendors, from artists to jewelers, bakers to vintage record sellers and more, can be found here

The day also features music from 98.7FM The FREQ as well as live performances, and snacks. An event for the whole family, Discovery Space and The Makery also will be on hand with activities for kids from 10 a.m.-1 p.m.

Groznik said that the flea supports local entrepreneurship, offering visibility to area startups, online businesses and people who pursue a craft or business on the side.

The Grozniks hope to see Pop Up Ave become a recurring event. The first edition has already seen support with sponsorships from area organizations such as CBICC, the Central PA Convention and Visitors Bureau and the Centre Region Entrepreneurship Network, as well as a number of local businesses.
