With hopes to improve internet and cellular service in the Hills Plaza area, Verizon Wireless has applied to construct a cell phone tower on Meyer Dairy property.
College Township council members discussed the potential cell phone tower at the March 7 board meeting and agreed to review the tower at public hearing on April 18.
This flagpole-type cell tower is proposed to be 50-feet tall, said township engineer Don Franson at the council meeting. The plans for the tower must go through the planning commission and township council with a public hearing, for review. It is anticipated to be reviewed by the planning commission on April 2 and then be reviewed by the council on April 18. Council agreed to set a public hearing on April 18.
“In the flagpole-type tower the antennas are camouflaged,” said Franson.
The plan is called the Hills Plaza Tower, although it is to be located on the Meyer Dairy property. The name is to reflect the improved service in the plaza area.
The plan shows the flagpole tower to be located about 100 feet to the east of the Meyer Dairy store with the tower and equipment protected by a 40–by-40 foot fence.
The land development project has 90 days to be approved by the council. After the reviews the council will then hear public comments at the April 18 meeting before they approve the project.
