Community members with gather at 4 p.m. Monday (Feb. 26) at the Allen Street Gates for a vigil in honor and remembrance of the victims of the mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida.
The vigil is organized by the Centre County Young Democrats and Penn State College Democrats.
“Join the State College and Penn State community in holding a vigil for the victims of the mass shooting at the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida,” the vigil’s Facebook event description reads. “We will be honoring the young lives lost, demonstrating solidarity with the surviving students, and publicly addressing actions that we can take as a community to combat gun violence here and everywhere.”
Students from Stoneman Douglas started a movement on social media using #NeverAgain and are planning a march in Washington, D.C. on Saturday, March 24. Last week they participated in a CNN town hall and have made a number of appearances on news shows to discuss gun violence.
Penn State announced Saturday it won’t discount applicants because of discipline at school for walking out or otherwise protesting against gun violence.
