Penn State men’s basketball will add Villanova football’s Kyle McCloskey as a transfer, according to McCloskey’s latest social media posts.
McCloskey was a three-star quarterback prospect entering his freshman year at Villanova, but the Washington, Pa., native opted to make the switch to Happy Valley after one season with the Wildcats. In four games this season, McCloskey threw for three touchdowns and 242 yards.
While at Germantown Academy, McCloskey starred in both sports, throwing for 3,000 yards on the gridiron and scoring 1,000 points on the hardwood.
After a one year stay at Villanova, McCloskey is now the fourth person in his family to play for the Nittany Lions. His father, Mike, played football for Joe Paterno and was part of Penn State’s first national championship team in 1982, a season that included McCloskey’s famous, and long disputed, catch with seconds remaining to set up a game-winning score against Nebraska. He went on to play in the NFL for Philadelphia Eagles and Houston Oilers.
Kyle McCloskey’s mother, Mimi, and his older sister Megan both ran track for Penn State.
Pat Chambers’ Nittany Lions were upset by Rider on Friday and will be back in action on Dec. 30, when they takes on Coppin State University in their final non-conference clash of the season. Tip-off is at 7 p.m. at the Bryce Jordan Center.
