A second consecutive Penn State men’s basketball game has been canceled because of positive COVID-19 test results within the Nittany Lion program.

Penn State’s Dec. 22 home game against Quinnipiac is scrapped and will not be rescheduled, the team announced on Friday. The program previously announced on Thursday that Saturday’s road matchup at VCU is canceled and will not be rescheduled as a result of COVID-19 cases.

“The health and safety of our student-athletes, coaches, staff and the broader community are of the utmost importance,” an athletic department statement said. “Therefore, as part of the protocols established by the Big Ten Conference and Penn State Athletics medical staff, and in consultation with university, local and national officials and guidelines, individuals with a positive test have been put into isolation. In addition to isolation, contact tracing procedures have been implemented, which includes testing for those individuals who might have been exposed.”

Fans who purchased tickets directly from the Penn State Athletics Ticket Office (including season, group and single-game tickets) will receive account credit for the canceled Quinnipiac contest which can be used for any home Penn State men’s basketball game during the 2021-22 season, while supplies last, according to a news release.

Those that received free tickets to the Quinnipiac game as a part of the Blue Friday/Cyber Monday sale will have them replaced with a ticket to Penn State’s next scheduled game, against Delaware State on Wednesday, Dec. 29. Purchasers will be notified via email when their new tickets are in their account.

Those who purchased a single-game ticket on Ticketmaster — including both direct and re-sale tickets — will receive a refund directly from Ticketmaster.

Fans who purchased tickets through a non-Ticketmaster third-party vendor will need to contact that provider directly about refunds.

The cancellations are the first for the men’s basketball team since last season and the first COVID-19-related cancellations for any Penn State athletics program since the start of the 2021-22 athletics calendar.
