One of Penn State men’s basketball’s top contributors is headed elsewhere.
Guard Melih Tunca became the first Nittany Lion to enter the transfer portal this offseason, according to a report by Draft Express on Tuesday afternoon. Tunca appeared in 31 of 32 games last season, including 12 starts. He averaged 7.8 points (fifth-most among Nittany Lions), 2.4 assists and two rebounds per game as a true freshman.
The Istanbul, Turkey, native posted a high of 20 points against La Salle and a Big Ten-best of 15 points against then-No. 2 Michigan. He produced mixed results throughout the season but reached double digits on 13 occasions and was viewed as a key retention piece this offseason for his developmental upside.
With senior Josh Reed graduating and only one recruit arriving from the 2026 class, Penn State now has another opening on its roster which will likely need to be filled through the portal.
