Penn State has never had a transfer portal exodus as large as this year’s, but many Nittany Lions have departed in search of greener pastures in recent seasons.

Here’s how former Penn State players fared in 2025 at new schools across the country.

Quarterback Beau Pribula

After three seasons backing up Drew Allar, Pribula transferred to Missouri where he battled with Sam Horn throughout the offseason for the starting job. After Horn went down with a preseason injury, Pribula earned the starting role and completed 182 of 270 passes for 1,941 yards with 11 touchdowns and nine interceptions. He added 95 carries for 297 yards and six scores.

While it was his most productive season statistically, Pribula’s performance against SEC competition was poor. He reentered the transfer portal this offseason and committed to Virginia.

Defensive back Mehki Flowers

A former four-star recruit and top-10 player in Pennsylvania, Flowers played at Penn State from 2022-24 before transferring to Akron to join head coach Joe Moorhead, who served as Penn State’s offensive coordinator from 2016-17. He earned a starting role, gathering 43 tackles, an interception and a forced fumble for the Zips.

Tight end Jerry Cross

After three seasons in a crowded Nittany Lion tight end room, Cross went portaling and landed at Memphis, where he caught one pass for 9 yards, his first college reception.

Wide receiver Tyler Johnson

Johnson saw no playing time through three seasons as a Nittany Lion before transferring to East Carolina, where he joined London Montgomery. In 2025, he totaled seven receptions for 72 yards.

Safety Tyrece Mills

Mills transferred to Penn State in 2022 from Lackawanna College and recorded 17 tackles and an interception across the next two seasons. He then transferred to UConn, where he amassed 25 tackles, a sack and a forced fumble.

Wide receiver Omari Evans

Evans also left his starting spot in Happy Valley, transferring to the West Coast to join Washington. While he didn’t lock down a starting role, Evans rotated in and totaled 17 receptions for 254 yards and a touchdown. He declared for the NFL draft after the season.

Kicker Chase Meyer

Meyer went from Penn in 2022 to Tulsa in 2023 to Penn State in 2024 and Cal in 2025, where he took over the starting role to some success. He converted on all 39 extra point attempts and 10 of 13 field goals with a long of 45 yards, though one of his misses was a potential game-winner at the end of regulation against Virginia Tech, a game the Golden Bears lost in double overtime.

Defensive end Joseph Mupoyi

Mupoyi totaled just two tackles through two seasons at Penn State before transferring to North Carolina for the 2025 season. He saw an increased role and finished the season with seven tackles.

Linebacker Ta’Mere Robinson

Robinson was expected to step into a bigger role with the Nittany Lions in 2025 but instead entered the transfer portal and landed across the country with USC. Last fall he totaled 11 tackles, the same amount he had the year prior at Penn State.

Cornerback Jon Mitchell

Mitchell was a highly rated four-star recruit in the 2024 class but saw minimal action as a true freshman at Penn State, instead transferring to Georgia Tech last offseason. He went from five tackles as a Nittany Lion to nine with the Yellow Jackets in 2025.

Offensive lineman JB Nelson

The former Nittany Lion was poised to battle for a starting role in 2025 but instead entered the transfer portal and landed in the Big 12 with Kansas State. In 2025, he totaled 224 snaps across nine games, allowing no sacks and three hurries on 117 dropbacks.

Defensive lineman Smith Vilbert

After six seasons at Penn State, Vilbert decided to take his talents elsewhere and landed at North Carolina, where he had his most productive season to date. He totaled 22 tackles, a sack and a forced fumble with the Tar Heels.

Cornerback Cam Miller

After increasing his production throughout three seasons in Happy Valley, Miller opted to transfer last offseason and landed at Rutgers, where he had a career year with 44 tackles, a sack and an interception for the Scarlet Knights. Against Penn State, Miller totaled nine tackles in a losing effort.

Wide receiver Harrison Wallace III

Wallace left a starting role at Penn State to spend his final season at Ole Miss, where he caught 61 passes for 934 yards and four touchdowns, setting career highs before declaring for the upcoming NFL draft.

Running back London Montgomery

Formerly a top-10 recruit in Pennsylvania in the 2023 class, Montgomery transferred to East Carolina after just one season in blue and white.

In 2025, he was the team’s leading rusher with 157 carries for 742 yards and seven touchdowns, though he entered the transfer portal earlier this month and committed to Florida.

Wide receiver Malik McClain

After two seasons at Florida State, McClain transferred to the Nittany Lions for the 2023 season, where he hauled in just six receptions for 71 yards and a score before reentering the portal.

He spent the last two seasons at Arizona State and accounted for 31 receptions, 441 yards and one touchdown in 2025.

Defensive lineman Davon Townley Jr.

The class of 2021 recruit spent three seasons at Penn State, gathering just four total tackles before transferring to Missouri State for the last two seasons.

In 2025, Townley had 23 tackles, two sacks and an interception, including a pair of tackles against USC.

Wide receiver Malick Meiga

After three seasons in blue and white, Meiga transferred to Coastal Carolina where he’s seen modest production for the last two years. In 2025, Meiga totaled 19 receptions for 209 yards and a touchdown, his most productive season.

Defensive tackle Jordan van den Berg

Van den Berg served a rotational role through three seasons in Happy Valley, totaling 25 tackles and 1.5 sacks before transferring to Georgia Tech. Last season, his second with the Yellow Jackets, he totaled 42 tackles and three sacks.

Punter Alex Bacchetta

On the special teams side, Bacchetta spent one season as a Nittany Lion before transferring to Rice, where he’s been since 2024. Last fall, he booted 62 punts for an average of 45 yards, good for third longest in the American Conference.

Defensive lineman Ken Talley

Talley was a coveted four-star recruit out of Philadelphia who enrolled in July 2022 but entered the transfer portal that August. He landed at Michigan State, where he totaled 11 tackles and 1.5 sacks across the next two seasons. After portaling again, Talley landed with Arkansas, where he produced three tackles in 2025.

Running back Caziah Holmes

Holmes was a highly rated recruit in the 2020 class, but couldn’t crack into a starting role at Penn State. He racked up 56 carries for 254 yards across two seasons before returning to his home state of Florida to join Florida State.

Holmes never locked down a starting role, but he saw 18 carries for 89 yards and two touchdowns last fall as a Seminole.

Defensive lineman Cole Brevard

Brevard, the top recruit from Indiana in the 2020 cycle, saw no action through two seasons before transferring to Purdue, where he amassed 39 tackles and 2.5 sacks across three seasons.

Ahead of the 2025 campaign, Brevard transferred to Texas, where he racked up 18 tackles and two pass breakups for the Longhorns in his sixth season of college football.

Quarterback Ta’Quan Roberson

Roberson’s college career began in 2019 at Penn State, where he spent three seasons in a backup role. He infamously came in for the injured Sean Clifford against Iowa in 2021, completing just seven of 21 passes for 34 yards with two interceptions.

Roberson entered the portal after that season and landed at UConn, seeing just two pass attempts in 2022 before landing the starting gig the next season. He then portaled again, landing at Kansas State where he was a backup and attempted just seven passes.

Ahead of 2025, Roberson portaled to his fourth school in Buffalo, where he completed 206 of 357 passes for 2,520 yards and 17 touchdowns with 12 interceptions, ending a tumultuous college career.

Running back Keyvone Lee

Lee was at Penn State from 2020-22 and was the team’s leading rusher in 2021 before being overtaken by freshmen Nick Singleton and Kaytron Allen. He transferred out in search of more playing time and landed at Mississippi State, where he totaled just 41 carries for 215 yards and one touchdown across two seasons.

Last season, he transferred to UNLV where he rushed 100 times for 438 yards and six touchdowns.

Defensive lineman Rodney McGraw

McGraw spent two seasons at Penn State totaling one tackle before transferring to Louisville, where he saw no action in 2023 before returning to the portal and landing at Western Michigan.

Last season, McGraw had 42 tackles and seven sacks, which led the team and ranked fifth in the MAC.

Quarterback Christian Veilleux

After starting his career as a backup at Penn State, Veilleux transferred to Pitt and took over the starting role midway through the 2023 season. He completed 94 of 184 passes for 1,179 yards and seven touchdowns with eight interceptions.

He then transferred to Georgia State, where he started in 2024 before being demoted to a backup last season. He completed 41 of 86 passes for 509 yards with three touchdowns and three interceptions in 2025, including starts against Troy and Old Dominion which resulted in losses to close out the year.

Quarterback Michael Johnson Jr.

Johnson hasn’t been at Penn State since 2019, his first collegiate season, when he saw no action with the Nittany Lions. He transferred to FAU and attempted just one pass, an incompletion in 2021, before once again portaling.

He landed at Syracuse in 2024, where he completed two of three passes for 31 yards, before jumping to his third school in Akron, where he was a backup quarterback under head coach Joe Moorhead.

Last season with the Zips, Johnson completed 12 of 23 passes for 62 yards and one touchdown against Central Michigan.

Wide receiver John Dunmore

Dunmore was a four-star recruit in the 2019 class but saw no playing time and entered the portal midway through the 2020 season. He spent the next two seasons with Oregon State from 2021-22, totaling 10 receptions for 99 yards before transferring again.

Dunmore landed at Towson for the 2023 season, where he’s been ever since. In 2025, he hauled in 54 receptions for 633 yards and seven touchdowns.
