Former Penn State quarterback Kerry Collins will represent his alma mater at the 2023 Peach Bowl as the Nittany Lions’ honorary captain, the bowl announced on Tuesday.
Collins played for Penn State from 1991-94, during which time the Nittany Lions compiled a 40-9 record. In 1994, he was a consensus First Team All-American, won both the Davey O’Brien and Maxwell Awards and was the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year. During that season, Collins and the Nittany Lions went 12-0 and finished No. 2 in the country.
Collins holds the Penn State single-season record for completion percentage (66.7). He finished his collegiate career with 5,304 passing yards and 39 touchdowns, which still rank as some of the best numbers by a quarterback in Penn State history.
After he finished at Penn State, Collins was drafted No. 5 overall in the 1995 NFL Draft by the Carolina Panthers. He spent 17 years playing professionally and was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2018.
Collins will be joined as an honorary captain by Ole Miss legend Donte Moncrief. The Peach Bowl is set to kick off at noon on Saturday, Dec. 30, and will air on ESPN.
