Penn State football’s season opener against West Virginia will kickoff in prime time on national television.
The Nittany Lions and Mountaineers will meet at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 2, in Beaver Stadium, with the game airing on NBC, the network announced on Saturday.
It will be Penn State’s first nighttime home season-opener since 2001 against Miami and the program’s first game on NBC since 2006 against Notre Dame. NBC has never broadcast a game from Beaver Stadium.
The season opener also will mark the first game between Penn State and West Virginia since 1992 in a series that the Nittany Lions lead 48-9-2. Penn State has won the last four matchups dating back to 1989.
Penn State is coming off an 11-2 season and a Rose Bowl win. The Nittany Lions return 41 lettermen and 13 starters. West Virginia finished 2022 with a 5-7 record.
Times and television arrangements for the rest of Penn State’s 2023 schedule are still to be determined.
