Penn State football doubled its 2028 recruiting class on Saturday afternoon.
The Nittany Lions picked up a commitment from kicker Carter Petri, who became the second member in the group, joining four-star cornerback Deonte Flemings Jr. Petri is currently unranked by any major recruiting service, as are most special teams recruits, but he’s ranked the No. 7 kicker in the class by Kohl’s Kicking.
Petri is listed at 6-foot-1 and 185 pounds and attends St. Joseph School in Buffalo, New York. Last season as a sophomore he converted all 26 extra-point attempts and knocked through two of four field goal tries for the Marauders.
Though his on-field results are limited, Petri recently worked out with the staff and showcased enough leg talent to land his first collegiate offer from special teams coordinator Justin Lustig, taking just three days before committing. Petri has also visited various schools for camps and individual workouts, including Virginia Tech, Georgia, Michigan and Syracuse.
Penn State has no other kickers committed in its 2026-28 recruiting classes, and assuming no transfers, current redshirt freshman Matthew Parker will be the only kicker still on the roster by 2028, leaving the door wide open for Petri to compete for a starting role, especially in 2029 and beyond.
