Penn State is set to lose another defensive depth piece this offseason. Joseph Mupoyi, a defensive lineman who appeared in two games across two seasons with the Nittany Lions, has entered the transfer portal, Matt Zenitz of 247Sports reported on Tuesday.
Mupoyi joins offensive lineman JB Nelson, linebacker Ta’Mere Robinson and cornerback Jon Mitchell as the fourth Penn State player to enter the portal since the spring window opened last Wednesday.
He’ll have three years of eligibility remaining.
The 6-foot-5, 261-pound Mupoyi, a native of the Democratic Republic of the Congo joined the Nittany Lions as a four-star prospect in 2023. He originally moved to Oakdale, Connecticut, to play basketball, but quickly found that his future lay in football.
With a two-sport background and advanced athletic ability, Mupoyi had high hopes when he signed with the Nittany Lions in December 2022.
“He really reminds me, in some ways, of Jayson Oweh,” Franklin said then. “And I’m not saying that to put pressure on him because, obviously, Jayson ended up being a first-round draft choice. But similar body type and athleticism and a basketball background.”
