Penn State’s offensive line got some love on Friday afternoon as offensive tackle Olumuyiwa Fashanu joined Nicholas Singleton on the Walter Camp Player of the Year Award watch list. Fashanu is widely expected to be a top-10, if not top-five, draft choice this upcoming NFL Draft and likely would have been the same if he not opted to return to Penn State following the Nittany Lions’ win over Utah in the Rose Bowl.
As one might expect, Fashanu was also named to the watch list for the Outland Trophy, which is given to the top offensive lineman in the nation each year.
For his part, Singleton added yet another preseason watch list honor to his already budding resume. He and fellow running back Kaytron Allen were named to the Doak Walker Award watch list on Thursday given to the best running back in the nation. Singleton was also named to the Maxwell Award and Paul Hornung Award watch lists. The Maxwell Award is given to the nation’s top all around player while the Hornung award is given to the nation’s most versatile.
The Walter Camp Football Foundation will narrow the watch list down to 10 semifinalists in mid-November. The Walter Camp Player of the Year will be announced on The Home Depot College Football Awards on Dec. 7. The winner will receive his trophy at the foundation’s 57th annual national awards banquet in New Haven, Conn. in early 2024.
