Penn State football’s 2023 recruiting class got stronger on Friday night as four-star athlete Neeo Avery announced his commitment to the Nittany Lions on Instagram Live.
Avery — from Our Lady of Good Counsel in Olney, Maryland — picked Penn State over Georgia and Kentucky, among others
According to 247Sports, Avery is primarily a defensive end, though he has also been viewed as a tight end prospect. He is ranked as the third-best player in Maryland and the No. 14 edge rusher in the nation.
The 6-foot-5, 230-pound athlete is the sixth player to join Penn State’s Class of 2023, which is now ranked No. 3 in the country and No. 1 in the Big Ten.
Avery told On3 he has the opportunity to play offense or defense at Penn State. On3 ranks Avery as the No. 10 tight end in the country.
While it’s unclear how Penn State plans to use the dual-position athlete, the Nittany Lions’ 2023 recruiting class includes two tight ends in four-star Mathias Barnwell and three-star Joey Schlaffer. As an edge rusher, Avery would be the second defensive player in the 2023 class, joining four-star Chartiers Valley cornerback Lamont Payne.
