Penn State has no update and is not expected to give any update on the longterm status of defensive Chop Robinson, who left Penn State’s 20-12 loss to Ohio State on Saturday with an apparent head injury.
Robinson, a core member of Penn State’s defense, left the game with 9:58 to go in the second quarter and did not return to the sideline in the second half after going down following head-to-head contact with an Ohio State offensive player. Robinson appeared to be in extreme discomfort and remained face-down on the field for an extended period before eventually leaving the field with assistance.
Penn State traditionally does not announce injury related news during games and generally does not provide updates following them. Penn State coach James Franklin has adopted an informal policy of announcing when a player is out for the remainder of the season during his Tuesday press conferences. While it is an assumption that Robinson suffered some form of a concussion on Saturday that exact detail may or may not be clarified by Franklin on Tuesday.
Moving forward, Penn State is not without options at the defensive end position, mainly with Adisa Isaac and Dani Dennis-Sutton, although none could match the quality of play Robinson brings to the table, or the one-field presence he has give Penn State’s defensive at-large. Penn State returns home this upcoming weekend to face Indiana before traveling to Maryland.
