Penn State Football: State High’s Finn Furmanek Joins Nittany Lions as Preferred Walk-On

State College Area High School quarterback and athlete Finn Furmanek will make the short trip up the street to join the Nittany Lions this year as a preferred walk-on. Furmanek announced the news on Twitter early Friday afternoon.

“First I would like to thank my family,” he wrote. “Without their love and support throughout my high school career I wouldn’t be in the position I am today. You have taught miso many life lessons that i will cherish for the rest of my life. Next I would like to thank my coaches and teammates for pushing me to become a better player and the best version of myself. I would also like to thank all the trainers and lifting coaches that have helped me stay healthy on the field. After lots of talk with my family, I have decided that I will be continuing my athletic and academic careers at Penn State University.”

Furmanek, who checks in at 6-foot-4 and 205 pounds, passed for 1,593 yards and 15 touchdowns during the Little Lions’ 2022-23 season while also rushing for nearly 600 yards and pulling down 15 receptions. State College went 13-1, falling to Harrisburg 27-7 in the PIAA 6A semifinals for the Little Lions’ only loss of the season. Furmanek is the third State College product on Penn State’s current 2023 roster joining longtime safety Keaton Ellis and redshirt freshman Jashaun Green.

Despite his background at quarterback, Furmanek heads to Penn State likely as a tight end prospect. Furmanek tagged tight end’s coach Ty Howle in his tweet announcing the decision and told PennLive he would be primarily used in the Nittany Lions’ talented, but increasingly older tight end room.
