It’s all but official. Penn State quarterback Drew Allar has been cleared to play against Ohio State on Saturday, per the Big Ten’s availability report. Allar was originally ruled a game-time decision after an injury forced him to miss the second half of the Nittany Lions’ 28-13 win at Wisconsin this past weekend.

Allar has improved in almost every aspect this season, his second as a starter. He’s thrown for 1,640 yards and scored 15 total touchdowns, turning the ball over just four times.

Allar wasn’t the Penn State’s only starter with availability in doubt. Dani Dennis-Sutton, a starting defensive end, and starting right tackle Anthony Donkoh have both been ruled questionable ahead of kickoff. Dennis-Sutton and Donkoh were each injured in the first half against the Badgers.

Dennis-Sutton has tallied 16 tackles, four tackles for loss and sacks in his first year as a starter. His availability could be crucial against a Buckeyes offensive line that will be without left tackles Josh Simmons and Zen Michalski. That could force left guard Donovan Jackson to play tackle and inexperienced sophomore Luke Montgomery to play left guard.

The Nittany Lions have again ruled out primary punt returner/wide receiver Kaden Saunders and true freshman running back Quinton Martin Jr., among five others already inactive with “long-term” injuries.
