The preseason honors just keep rolling in for Penn State players, with one in particular making his way onto a fourth preseason award watch list Tuesday.
Nick Singleton and Kaytron Allen were each named to the Doak Walker Award preseason watch list, given annually to the nation’s top running back. This marks the fourth award watch list Singleton has has been added to and the first for Allen, the Nittany Lions’ leading rusher in 2023.
Singleton is coming off a season in which he was selected a third-team All-Big Ten honoree despite a down year in production. His 752-yard rushing tally was over 300 fewer than his freshman year in 2022. His eight rushing touchdowns, however, were a team high.
Singleton has also been tabbed to the watch lists for the Walter Camp Player of the Year Award, Maxwell Award for the nation’s best player and the Paul Hornung Award given to college football’s most versatile player.
Allen was Penn State’s most consistent running back last season, and led the team with 902 rushing yards. He also scored six rushing touchdowns en route to a second-team All-Big Ten selection.
The award will name 10 semifinalists in early November before announcing three finalists later in the month. The committee will cast a vote in December to determine the winner.
They are two of nine Penn State players who have been selected to preseason watch lists. Other recognized Nittany Lions include Drew Allar (Maxwell Award), Abdul Carter (Nagurski Trophy, Walter Camp Player of the Year Award), Nick Dawkins (Wuerffel Trophy), Tyler Duzansky (Mannelly Award), Sal Wormley (Outland Trophy), Riley Thompson (Ray Guy Award) and Chase Meyer (Lou Groza Award).
