Last Friday, Penn State welcomed members of the media for an exclusive tour of the ongoing construction project at Beaver Stadium. With kickoff against Marshall less than a month away, the construction crew is working diligently to prepare the venue for use.
Although the $700 million renovation won’t wrap up until the 2027 season, seating capacity this fall will match or exceed recent years. Beaver Stadium held 106,572 fans before dropping slightly to 106,304 last season. However, capacity is expected to drop starting in 2027 when temporary bleachers are removed to accommodate new suites and premium seating.
Here’s the view from the southwest side of the stadium, overlooking the campus and surrounding area.

Heading to the top of the reconstructed West side, here’s the view from the highest seats in the entire stadium, which are much taller than previously. This side now towers over the other three, but the tiered design means fans up top aren’t too far from the field. Behind the last row of bleachers is a thick cement wall to prevent anyone from possibly falling backward.

Here’s a better look at the opposite side of the stadium, featuring a new light system with units installed across the top of the East side boxes.

Turning to the right from the top of the stadium reveals how much taller the West side is than the South side. Construction is also visible on the South scoreboard, where a new sound system is fully installed for the season.

Looking up, here’s a view of the lighting system above the West side of the stadium. It wraps around the whole side and has a catwalk attached.

The scoreboard at the stadium displayed a score for the Nittany Lions’ season opener on Sept. 5: Penn State 37, Marshall 6.

Here’s a look at ongoing construction inside the West side, where an expanded concourse, concessions and suites will eventually be added.

The plan is for Penn State to be able to host weddings in this area of the stadium, with a large glass enclosure offering a backdrop of the surrounding area.

A translucent Nittany Lion logo hangs over this stairway.

Lastly, say goodbye to the troughs. Penn State implemented stalls in the renovated bathrooms and will still have a higher capacity than before. This is the nicest you’ll ever see them look.
