A former Penn State linebacker has reportedly found his new home, and won’t be leaving the Big Ten. Ta’Mere Robinson has committed to transfer to USC, On3’s Hayes Fawcett reported on Tuesday. He has three years of eligibility remaining.
Robinson was one of four scholarship Nittany Lions who entered the portal after the spring window opened on Wednesday. JB Nelson, an offensive lineman, cornerback Jon Mitchell and defensive lineman Joseph Mupoyi were the other three. It’s likely that more will follow.
Robinson’s departure was possibly the most surprising of any other player’s this spring. He registered 11 tackles and 2 tackles for loss across 14 games last season, and was in the mix to earn a boost in playing time with starting middle linebacker Kobe King off to the NFL.
The 6-foot-3, 231-pound Robinson was rated by 247Sports a four-star recruit and the No. 4-ranked prospect in Pennsylvania during the 2023 recruiting cycle.
His departure throws Anthony Speca and Keon Wylie into the spotlight as Penn State’s focal points at middle linebacker. But a potential 4-2-5 base defense with five defensive backs and two linebackers could help ease the pressure on the unit as a whole.
Robinson will join a Trojans defense led by another former Nittany Lion in coordinator D’Anton Lynn.
