Trace McSorley is headed back to the big leagues.

The Penn State assistant quarterbacks coach will join the Buffalo Bills in an unknown role, according to a report by Lions247’s Daniel Gallen. McSorley has since been removed from the team’s online staff directory, seemingly confirming the report.

McSorley, who was set to enter his second season coaching with the Nittany Lions, will join an NFL staff for the first time instead. The move reunites him with head coach Joe Brady, who was a graduate assistant at Penn State from 2015-16. He also joins former Nittany Lion and safety DaQuan Jones, who graduated before McSorley arrived at Penn State in 2014, and potentially center Connor McGovern, who he played with for three seasons in college, if McGovern re-signs with Buffalo.

McSorley attended Penn State from 2014-18, including three seasons as a starter, completing 720 of 1,215 passes (59.3%) for 9,899 yards and 77 touchdowns, with 25 interceptions. He led the Nittany Lions to a Big Ten championship in 2016, their most recent conference title. McSorley ranks second in program history in career passing yards and passing touchdowns and he’s responsible for the top two single-season records for passing yards (2016 and 2017).

After being selected by the Baltimore Ravens in the sixth round of the NFL Draft in 2019, McSorley saw brief stints with the Arizona Cardinals, New England Patriots, Chicago Bears, Pittsburgh Steelers and Washington Commanders before returning to his alma mater as a coach.
