Penn State men’s hockey has begun reloading.
The Nittany Lions added a commitment from four-star left winger Jaxon Cover on Friday afternoon, he announced on Instagram, providing a boost to the team’s incoming 2026 recruiting class. After losing a batch of players to both the NHL and the transfer portal, the Nittany Lions will need a heavy influx of talent to compete for a return to the NCAA tournament.
“I am proud and honoured to announce my commitment to play Division I hockey at Penn State University,” Cover wrote in the announcement. “I would like to thank my family, friends, coaches and advisors.”
Cover is a consensus top-50 recruit in the class, ranked No. 23 by Elite Prospects, No. 26 by McKeen’s Hockey and No. 35 by TSN’s Craig Button. The Cayman Islands native is 18 years old and is listed at 6-foot-1, 185 pounds.
As a rookie, Cover played 67 games for the London Knights of the Ontario Hockey League last season, totaling 20 goals and 32 assists, good for the second-most points on the team. The Knights were recently eliminated in the conference quarterfinals of the playoffs.
