Penn State Athletics is moving ahead with a series of facilities projects, beyond the $700 million renovation of Beaver Stadium.
The athletic department on Tuesday evening released design renderings for a new soccer operations center, an air-supported indoor practice structure and major renovations to the Greenberg Indoor Sports Complex and East Area Locker Room.
All four projects, totaling $68 million, were approved by the university’s Board of Trustees in May 2023. No tuition or state dollars are being used for the projects.
Details on the soccer operations center and multi-sport practice bubble, both of which will be constructed near Jeffrey Field, can be found here.
Here’s a look at what’s planned for the Greenberg Complex and East Area Locker Room.
GREENBERG SPORTS COMPLEX — TRAINING TABLE AND WELLNESS CENTER
The $31 million project will renovate the building to include an athletic training table and a wellness and training center for all 31 of Penn State’s varsity teams.
“The space, which is adjacent to the Morgan Academic Center, will provide a hub for the 800-plus student-athletes to attend to their academic, nutrition and wellness needs in one central location on campus,” according to a news release when the projects were approved in 2023.
Menus at the training table will be designed by athletic department nutrition staff and the renovations will provide space for athletes from all 31 teams to interact. The wellness and athletic training center will offer medical, rehabilitation and nutrition services. The nutrition area will provide items to help athletes refuel after workouts and practices.

EAST AREA LOCKER ROOM
A $5.2 renovation of the East Area Locker Room, which is across from Greenberg, will improve the sports performance area, fueling stations, satellite athletic training area, office suites and information technology suite.
More equipment and a large space in the sports performance area will support the 16 teams that use the facility for strength training, and the fueling stations will offer athletes items to aid in recovery following practice, weight training and competition.
