State Champion Levi Haines Commits to Penn State Wrestling

Penn State wrestling began its Class of 2022 with a bang on Thursday when reigning PIAA state champion Levi Haines committed to the Nittany Lions.

Haines is ranked the No. 12 overall recruit in the Class of 2022, according to InterMat’s current rankings. The Biglerville standout is a three-time state finalist and captured his first title at 145 pounds this year.

Following three high school seasons, Haines boasts a 100-5 record, including a perfect 30-0 stretch in his third campaign. He weighed in at 106 pounds as a freshman, 126 as a sophomore, and 145 as a junior.

Additionally, at 71 kg, Haines is a member of the Cadet World team that’s heading to Budapest this summer to compete on the international stage.

Multiple sites reported Haines’ commitment, but the official announcement is located on his private Instagram page. His verbal pledge to Penn State may not come as much of a surprise given he’s a member of program legend David Taylor’s training center.

Penn State’s offseason has already been a rather eventful one. Just last week, the Nittany Lions landed a commitment from two-time All-American Max Dean, who’s transferring from Cornell. Additionally, Brady Berge retired from competition due to recurring injuries, while 149-pounder Jarod Verkleeren transferred to Virginia following three seasons in Happy Valley.
