Centre County Controller Jason Moser is running for reelection in 2023, he announced on Monday.
Moser, a Democrat and Bellefonte resident, was first elected to the office overseeing the county’s fiscal affairs in 2019.
“In 2019, the residents of Centre County put their trust in me to increase accountability and transparency around the government’s fiscal operations,” he said in a statement. “Since being elected, I’ve made great strides but there’s more good work to be done.”
He pointed to several accomplishments since he took office in 2020, including making Centre County’s audit reports and retirement fund investment portfolio available online and producing the county’s first Popular Annual Financial Reports, a condensed overview of the comprehensive financial report. He advised the Board of Commissioners on American Rescue Plan funds and filed the U.S. Treasury reports, and says he prevented attempts to defraud more than $200,000 in county resources.
Moser, who serves as secretary of the Retirement Board, advised the board on hiring an investment manager and changing the retirement fund’s custodian, helping to save thousands of dollars in fees, according to a news release, and implemented monthly pension information sessions for county employees. He is currently leading a project to overhaul the county’s enterprise resource planning software for accounting and employee management systems.
“I look forward to getting back out on the campaign trail to earn the continued support of Centre County voters in 2023,” Moser said.
The municipal primary election is May 16. The first day for candidates to circulate and file nomination petitions is Feb. 14.
