Penn State President Neeli Bendapudi is currently recovering from acute pancreatitis, according to a university spokesperson.
She is participating remotely in the university’s Board of Trustees meetings on Thursday and Friday and will not be attending any spring commencement ceremonies, which are scheduled for Friday through Sunday.
Penn State confirmed Bendapudi has received medical care, but it was not clear for how long, or how long she will be out.
“While she is recovering, her spirits are high and she is grateful for the support of the Penn State community,” the spokesperson said.
“While President Bendapudi unfortunately cannot attend ceremonies this year, as she must prioritize her recovery, senior academic leadership will preside over each ceremony, including the provost, senior vice president for research, and senior vice provost for undergraduate education.”
