Penn State football landed the services of three-star Virginia receiver Tyler Johnson on Monday afternoon, adding to Nittany Lions’ already solid 2022 recruiting class as the cycle continues to move along.

Johnson, who visited Penn State over the past weekend, hits the scales at 6-feet and 175 pounds playing for Magna Vista High School. According to the 247 Network, Johnson had a handful of offers including Maryland, Purdue, Appalachian State, Boston College and Coastal Carolina.

“Coming from where I’m from, this is truly a blessing,” Johnson wrote on Twitter. “Not many people from my area get the chance to play football at the next level. I thank everybody in the city for your support. I’ll always rep the 276!”

He is rated the No. 21 prospect in the state and the 95th best receiver according to the 247 Network’s evaluation.

Johnson gives Penn State 12 verbal commitments for the 2022 cycle in a class that is rated third best in the Big Ten and seventh best in the nation by the 247 Network. He is the fourth receiver in the group that is headlined by rising four-star Kaden Saunders. The duo joins fellow receivers Mehki Flowers, and Anthony Ivey at the receiver position.

Penn State is expected to add to its 2022 class in the coming weeks and months as the recruiting period continues to roll along in a post-pandemic world.
