Joe Paterno‘s 61 years of coaching at Penn State University came to a screeching halt today.  Paterno spent 46 of those 61 years as the head coach at Penn State compiling a 409-136-3 record and setting many milestones along the way.

Unfortunately for Paterno, it will be his most recent milestone that might possibly shape his legacy.  The firestorm that is the Jerry Sandusky sex scandal is taking Paterno’s coaching career right along with it.

Paterno’s involvement, if any, in the scandal is still unknown.  But what is certain is that after this year he will never coach another down at Penn State.

See what Penn State alumni, members of the media and other coaches are tweeting within hours of Paterno’s announcement to retire.
