The reaction to the Jerry Sandusky scandal is being felt by people who aren’t just attached to the university. For instance, the public shame that Jerry Sandusky’s son, Jon Sandusky, is feeling now, is from the fallout from what his father is being charged for.
It’s a shame, because it’s not Jon’s fault what his father may or may not have done. But because of his last name, Sandusky, he is getting unwanted press and attention about what he is doing in his career with the Cleveland Browns as director of player personal.
According to Tony Grossi of the Cleveland Plain Dealer, Sandusky has not taken a leave of absence.
Even though the weight of what happened to his father is tough to deal with, he has not left his position to deal with the controversy that is weighing around his family.
The head coach of the Browns, Pat Shurmur declined talking about Jon on his Monday press conference saying, “That’s a totally personal deal,” Shurmur said. “I don’t know the details of any of that. I’m going to sit that one out.”
Sandusky’s son must of had no clue what his father may or may not have been doing. However, because of the vile that has come out since the grand jury report, everyone that has been associated with this scandal has felt a shame that has sent them into hiding.
Jon Sandusky is not responsible for what came out in the grand jury’s findings. He should not have to feel the backlash of what his father is being accused of. The Browns should not have to distance themselves from Sandusky, because of what his father is accused of.
Instead, what the Browns should do is just stay away from what is going on at Penn State and keep Sandusky in their front office. Did anyone even know who Jon Sandusky was before this whole scandal broke?
Of course not, even if he had a Cleveland Browns polo on walking around Paul Brown Stadium in Cleveland, I’m sure people would have thought he was just another fan and not a front office member.
It is a horrible thing that Sandusky is being charged with. However, it was Jerry Sandusky named in the report, not Jon Sandusky. It’s not his fault that he shares a last name and blood line to him.
His career and life should not be punished for the alleged crimes of his father.
